Request Materials (ILLiad)

ILLiad is an online system for requesting library material via Dykes Library's interlibrary loan service. Once you have set up an ILLiad account, you may log in and use it to do the following:

  1. Order articles, books, and other material from other libraries as well as from Dykes Library.
  2. View the status of your outstanding requests, as well as information about previously requested items.
  3. Access material delivered electronically.

KUMC Campus Users:

Enter your User ID and Password. New KUMC Campus ILLiad users can follow the guide entitled "Registering your ILLiad account" for assistance. Materials borrowed for KUMC faculty, staff and students, and KU Hospital teams must be used for research, scholarly, and educational purposes.

Non-KUMC Users:

Enter the Username and Password supplied to you by Dykes Library staff. If you do not have a Username and Password for this system please submit the ILLiad Username and Password form or call 913-588-5073. New non-KUMC ILLiad users can follow the guide entitled "Registering your ILLiad account" for assistance.

KUSM-W Users:

Please submit interlibrary loan requests to the Farha Medical Library, either by phone at 316-293-2629 or by email at fll@kumc.edu. For more information, access Farha Library's ILL web site.

University of Kansas-Lawrence Users:

Please submit interlibrary loan requests to Watson Library using your KU 8-digit ID login. If you have problems logging into KU's system, contact illborr@ku.edu.

Turnaround time is calculated from the time that a request is submitted to the time that the article is made available electronically and when the loan is available to the patron. Calculations include weekends.

Fees

Different fees are applicable depending on required delivery time, KUMC affiliation, and source of the materials (Dykes Library or another library).

The mission of the staff of A.R. Dykes Library of the Health Sciences is to work collaboratively with individuals and organizations seeking high quality health information.

Interlibrary loan renewals

Login to ILLiad and choose View Checked Out Items. You may ask for one renewal per item. Books from Dykes Library collection can be renewed for one additional week unless there is a hold or the item has been recalled. Length of renewal on items borrowed from other libraries will vary according to the lending library's policies.

Clinical emergency service

The National Library of Medicine provides a clinical emergency service for health care providers delivering direct patient care under emergency circumstances. If the journal is available at NLM they will fill these requests within 2 hours of receipt during the hours they are open. Only those requests needed for emergency patient care qualify for this service. Fee information for clincial emergency requests can be found here: ILLiad Fees.

Loansome Doc is another online system through which PubMed users can order documents. See our fee information page to determine costs. Citation information does not have to be retyped when ordering via Loansome Doc. Simply check the box next to the citation you wish to order.
